Who writes the questions that are contained in the database?
EXAM MASTER questions and explanations have been carefully constructed by over 100 medical specialist including scientists (PhDs, MDs), physicians (MDs), and other academic and clinical specialists (MA & MS degrees). These professionals are associated with or received their training in some of the finest medical schools and academic health centers in the country, A list of authors is available in EM OnLine under the “About” tab in “My Account” or on our official website www.exammaster.com.

What is the difference between EM OnLine and Academic Manager?
EM OnLine allows users to create exams and study sessions from over 25,000 questions in Exam Master’s question banks. Users can create studies general studies from the outlines offered, or detailed studies from a specific category. Created exams can be used in test or study modes. Users can generate detailed score reports when using the test mode. These reports will help users assess strengths and weaknesses.

Academic Manager is for faculty to use to create online exams. These can be created using Exam Masters questions, their own questions or any combination. Faculty can edit Exam Master questions to better suit their needs. Detailed score reports are generated as soon as examinees “score” exams. The flexible exam assigner allows faculty to set exam parameters for individuals and for entire classes.

Do faculty and/or administrators need to download a special program to Access Exam Master?
No, Exam Master is accessible worldwide from any Internet connection. All that is required is the URL you were provided. Using your registered email address and password you can access your portal. If the portal administrator has restricted access by IP address, you must contact your portal Administrator for special access instructions.

How do faculty and portal administrators gain access to AMS?
Follow the registration instructions on the main page of your institution’s portal. Once your email address is registered, contact your Portal Administrator so your user account can be enabled with faculty access. Portal Administrators need to contact Client Support at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for Administration access.

Why do faculty and portal administrators need a 2nd password?
The second password is an added level of security. We recommend using two different passwords and changing passwords frequently to insure the best level of security possible.

Can faculty and administrators change their password(s)?
Yes, to change either or both passwords, log into EM OnLine > go to My Account on the top right > My Info > change any information you desire.

What happens if someone forgets their password?
The first password can be retrieved by clicking on the “Forgot Password” link. For faculty and administrators to retrieve their 2nd password to access Academic Manager, contact Client Support at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. How are examinees registered to the portal?
There are many ways a user can be registered to the portal. If self registration is enabled then the examinee can register from the main page of your customized portal webpage. Your institution’s Portal Administrator can register examinees or you can upload class lists and any examinee in the class not previously registered will be registered automatically. Caution – The email address is the unique identifier in AMS so it is possible for an examinee to be registered more than once if they have multiple email accounts.

Can examinees be in more than one class?
Yes, examinees can be in any number of classes.

Can faculty administer paper exams?

Do examinees receive immediate feedback?
That is an option of the exam administrator.

Can faculty use their own questions/images in exams?
Yes, using the Content Manager module faculty can write their own questions, upload images, and edit Exam Master questions.

Can faculty use Exam Master questions in another testing system?
The licensing agreement does not permit using EM questions outside of the system. Additional subscription options do allow for use of EM questions in another system. Can faculty assign an exam to multiple people at different times?
Yes, the flexible exam assigner allows for customization of assignments by individual, class or subgroups of the class.

Can faculty determine the exam parameters?
Yes, the flexible assignment tool allows faculty to control the date, time, length of time and various options for assignment.

Can faculty retain a printed copy of the exam that was given on-line?
Yes, when using “Display Exam” module, faculty can print a copy of the exam. Please note, this prints in html formatting and is not suitable for exam delivery. This is for your records only.

How are exams scored?
Exams are scored instantly when the examinee clicks scores and all score reports are processed instantaneously.

Can faculty make changes to an exam?
Yes, exams can be modified.

Can faculty change correct answers?
Yes, the Rekey tool allows faculty to allow more than one correct answer, change the correct answer, allow all answers or omit the question.

Can faculty allow multiple correct answer choices?
After the exam has been taken, using the Rekey tool.

Can others view another faculty’s exams and questions?
Each faculty member controls their own exams and questions. Faculty can choose to share their own authored questions and exams with other faculty on their portal.

What do faculty and administrators do if they have a problem using Academic Manager?
Several options are available:
• Use the "Help File" within system (found at the top right)
• Access any of the detailed tutorials (found using the Tutorial button on the left)
• Attend any of the many scheduled webinars (for dates and times click Webinars button on main page of AMS)

Can an examinee pause an exam?
The faculty assigning the exam determines if examinees may pause the exam. Exams assigned with no pause do not allow examinees to pause the exam. Pausing the exam will stop the exam clock.

What kind of scoring information is provided?
There are numerous score reports that allow faculty to assess the class as a whole and the individual examinee, including point bi-serial, standard deviation and item analysis for each question. And topic/subject breakdowns for the class and individuals.
